Obinna Alu, PharmD, MBA, BCGP Clinical Pharmacist

Obinna “Obi” Alu, PharmD, MBA, BCGP is a clinical pharmacist board certified in geriatric pharmacy. Dr. Alu values and enjoys collaborating with various individuals involved in the patient’s healthcare team to optimize outcomes and provide the best care possible for every patient. Dr. Alu received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from the University of Tennessee and has experience working in the health and fitness industry as a former personal trainer and nutrition coach. He then went on to obtain a dual Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus in Healthcare Administration (HA) at South University School of Pharmacy (SUSOP) at the then Columbia, SC campus. During his time at SUSOP, Dr. Alu was one of four national dual degree pharmacy students to be recognized as a Medco Foundation Scholar, a prestigious award administered by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP)—the accrediting body for all pharmacy schools in the United States.

Upon successfully completing his PharmD/MBA at SUSOP, Dr. Alu commissioned into the US Army as a Pharmacy Officer, during which time he worked at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC). During his time at WBAMC, Dr. Alu spearheaded numerous campaigns that earned the medical center numerous recognitions and improved patient care for thousands of patients in the Fort Bliss/El Paso, TX area. He also had the privilege to work with the then, Army Consultant to the Office of The Surgeon General (OTSG) on various Army Pharmacy and Army Medicine wide projects. Since completing his active-duty time as a pharmacy officer, Dr. Alu moved to Alaska and spent several years working for various Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities in rural and interior Alaska. He obtained his Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacy (BCGP) through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in 2017.

Dr. Alu brings to Algone a wide range of pharmacy experiences gained in several different practice settings that include inpatient, tele-pharmacy, ER, ambulatory, consulting, and retail pharmacy. Dr. Alu believes in tailoring his approach with every patient interaction and focusing on what is important to the patient and working collaboratively with the integrated team to achieve those goals.
